The Thunderers are a dining club whose membership is broadly based; no one profession or trade is predominant. We have businessmen, directors of companies and representatives of most professions. There is no qualification for joining, although membership is restricted to a number fixed each year by the members. We are "selective but not exclusive" to quote one of our founders.

Thunderers are not keen on committees; so each year we elect one member, known as THOR, who is responsible for running the society until the next annual meeting. He is assisted by officers appointed by him.

A different Thunderer takes the Chair at each dinner. After a Thunderer has "gone through the Chair" he is presented with a tankard, enabling him to drink greater quantities of wine thereafter, and with the Chairman's tie.
