We do not engage in political, scientific or cultural pursuits, nor back good or doubtful causes; all we do is to meet together to enjoy good company, good ambience, good conversation whilst enjoying good food and good wine.
This we have been doing for over fifty years, some ten times a year. Until the Devonshire Club closed its doors and their members moved to another club, that was always our venue. The move from the Devonshire prompted the Thunderers to decide to become a nomadic dining society, and now we seldom return to the same venue with the year. As Thunderers are clubmen, the clubs scattered around the St. James district and nearby dominate the London venues, but we do venture further afield.
As part of our 25-year anniversary celebrations we held, in 1977, our first dinner at HMS Thunderer, signalling the commencement of our association with Naval Engineers, which has continued with our regular visits to HMS Sultan.
In April 1988, we inaugurated dining in Toronto, which has thrived, with membership rising steadily. Toronto Thunderers also have a wide choice of clubs and other venues.
